Monthly US Google search data for five AI-music legal terms since 2020 show public concern arriving late. Before 2023 these searches barely existed. "ai generated music" is by far the largest term and peaked in May 2026. "ai music copyright" peaked in June 2026, and "suno lawsuit" and "udio lawsuit" both peaked in November 2025, the period when major labels' lawsuits against both companies were turning into settlement and licensing deals. Most terms fell back in late summer 2026.
What it means
AI music is now part of the conversation, and people want to know how it stacks up. If you have a hook of your own, an AI song generator can turn it into a full track with vocals in a few minutes. For a soundtrack to your own day, an AI music generator can score it to whatever mood you need.
Method
- Google search interest, US, web search, monthly, 2020–Sep 2026. Five terms queried together (shared scale).
- News annotations cover widely reported label–AI company litigation and settlements.
