We asked ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini and Perplexity to explain 10 big songs in one sentence each, then compared their answers with what people ask Google. That means the 'People also ask' questions on each song's results page and US search volume for '[song] meaning'. The assistants agree on 5 songs. On the other 5 they drift. Claude reads Shaboozey's work-week anthem as heartbreak, Gemini turns Alex Warren's love song into 'fear of losing a soulmate', and the four give four different meanings for 'Golden'. Meanwhile fans ask narrower questions than the AIs answer. Google's 'People also ask' boxes want single lines decoded ('What does warm smell of colitas mean?', 'What does she's taking a drag mean?', 'What does Jerusalem bell ringing mean?') or one specific theory ('Is the song Ordinary about God?'). A one-line theme summary from an AI answers none of those.

What it means
Lyrics are the part of a song fans quote, argue over and get wrong. Anyone who would rather write lines fans quote for the right reasons can start a first draft with a song lyrics generator. And if the words are the hard part, an AI song writer can help shape a verse and chorus before anything is recorded.
Method
- One run per assistant: ChatGPT (gpt-5.5-2026-04-23), Claude (claude-sonnet-4-6), Gemini (gemini-3.6-flash) and Perplexity (sonar, web search on); the other three ran without web search. Answers capped at 2,000 tokens.
- Prompt (identical): "In one sentence each, explain what these songs are about: Espresso (Sabrina Carpenter); Mr. Brightside (The Killers); Hotel California (Eagles); Viva la Vida (Coldplay); Creep (Radiohead); Anti-Hero (Taylor Swift); Ordinary (Alex Warren); APT. (Rose & Bruno Mars); Golden (Huntrix); A Bar Song (Tipsy) (Shaboozey). Format: Song: explanation."
- Fan questions: 'People also ask' items from the Google search results collected for “When you Google a song title, what shows up first — lyrics, YouTube, Spotify or an AI answer?” / “Play button or rabbit hole? How Google treats different song searches” (US desktop, Oct 29, 2026).
- '[song] meaning' volumes: Google search volume, US, latest-12-month average.
