Psychologists find people remember music from their teens best. We tested that with the US Google age profiles of 84 hits from 1961 to 2022, matching each age band with how old those searchers were when the song came out. Average share of a song's searches by age at release: before birth: 23.3%; 0–9: 21.1%; 10–19: 19.2%; 20–29: 15.7%; 30+: 11.3%. Shares fall steadily: there is no extra pull for songs from people's teens.
What it means
Every generation keeps its own soundtrack. If you have a hook of your own, an AI song generator can turn it into a full track with vocals in a few minutes. For a soundtrack to your own day, an AI music generator can score it to whatever mood you need.
Method
- Google search age and gender data, US, past 12 months (Nov 2025–Oct 2026). Each keyword's top age band = 100, and each keyword's larger gender = 100; "average age" is the index-weighted mean of band midpoints (18–24 … 55–64).
- Age at release = age-band midpoint minus years since release. Every song × age band pair is placed in a bucket; share = that band's index ÷ the sum of the song's five band indexes.
