Rainy-day music: does bad weather change what people search?

"Rain sounds" is a Southern search habit: Mississippi leads, while rain-famous Washington and Hawaii rank near the bottom

Over October 2025 to June 2026, "rain sounds" was searched most in Mississippi, Arkansas, Delaware, West Virginia, Tennessee. Two states known for rain rank low: Washington (36) and Hawaii (28), both near the bottom. That pattern suggests rain sounds are used mainly as a sleep and focus aid rather than as a reaction to the weather. Meanwhile "rainy day songs" and "rainy day playlist" barely register in US search at all.

What it means

Most music searches are about a moment in someone's day. If you have a hook of your own, an AI song generator can turn it into a full track with vocals in a few minutes. For a soundtrack to your own day, an AI music generator can score it to whatever mood you need.

Method

  • Google search interest, US, web search, daily, Oct 1, 2025–Jun 27, 2026, with state map. Four terms queried together.
  • "Rainy" refers to well-known climate patterns (for example Washington's reputation and Hawaii's high rainfall).
  • Wyoming and Kansas are not included in state tables.
