A forgotten 2006 World Cup song CD on a dusty shelf.

We tracked worldwide Google interest since 2004 for World Cup songs. Ricky Martin's "La Copa de la Vida" (France 98) reached its highest point in the whole series in June 2026, during the 2026 World Cup. Every official or sponsor song from 2006 to 2022 that we tracked now sits at 8% of its peak or less, and the median one lost half its interest 2 months after peaking. The longest-lasting football song is not an official one at all: the stadium chant "Seven Nation Army" still runs at 23% of its peak. Even "Waka Waka" is down to 2%.

What it means

Music travels, but language still shapes what people go looking for. If you have a hook of your own, an AI song generator can turn it into a full track with vocals in a few minutes. For a soundtrack to your own day, an AI music generator can score it to whatever mood you need.

Method

  • Google search interest, worldwide (all countries), web search, monthly. Each term was queried on its own, so every line is scaled 0–100 to its own peak month. These are shapes, not sizes: they show how each fad rose and faded, not which was bigger.
  • Window: Jan 2004–Sep 2026. "La Copa de la Vida" (1998) is measured from 2004, so its peak here is a later revival.
  • Excluded as ambiguous: "bailando" (common Spanish word) and "magic in the air" (common phrase). Also dropped "time of our lives pitbull": that query finds Pitbull's 2014 single, not the 2006 Il Divo anthem.
  • World Cup month columns show interest in Jun 2014, Jun 2018, Nov 2022 and Jun 2026 (on the 0–100 scale for that song).
