Do Grammy wins boost streams or searches more?

Grammy night gives unknowns the biggest search jump: Jon Batiste and Samara Joy went from almost no searches to a spike, while Taylor Swift's three wins lifted her searches only 6–9×

We pulled daily US Google search data for every Album of the Year and Best New Artist winner from 2015 to 2025 (21 artist-years), from 10 weeks before the ceremony to a month after. Every winner hit their highest point of the window on Grammy night or the day after, except Taylor Swift in 2024, whose bigger spike came a week later around the Super Bowl. The size of the jump depends on how known the winner already was. Jon Batiste (2022) and Samara Joy (2023) were barely searched before the show. For winners with a measurable baseline, the median peak was 17 times their pre-show level, and for Taylor Swift it was only 6 to 9 times. The jump mostly does not last: three to four weeks later the median winner was back at 1.0× their pre-show level. Only 5 of 19 were still at 1.5× or more (Kacey Musgraves 2019, Olivia Rodrigo 2022, Chance the Rapper 2017, Meghan Trainor 2016, Taylor Swift 2021).

How to read it

  • "Pre-show daily average" covers 10 weeks to 2 weeks before the ceremony, so the nomination news and award-week build-up are excluded.
  • "Grammy-night peak" is the highest day from the ceremony date to two days after (the show ends late on US Sunday night, so most searching happens on Monday).
  • Where the pre-show average is under 1, we show the multiple as "over 100×".

What it means

Streams and searches measure different kinds of attention, and both start with a song worth finding. If you have a hook of your own, an AI song generator can turn it into a full track with vocals in a few minutes. For a soundtrack to your own day, an AI music generator can score it to whatever mood you need.

Method

  • Google search interest, US, web search, one artist per query, daily data from 70 days before to 30 days after each ceremony.
  • Winners of Album of the Year and Best New Artist, 2015–2025. Billie Eilish won both in 2020 and is counted once.
