Backs of a crowd watching a musician on a spotlighted stage.

We took the 300 most-streamed songs in Spotify history, added up streams by lead artist, and compared each artist with English Wikipedia views since 2016. That gave 170 artists. The median artist gets 304 streams per Wikipedia read. At one end are acts people play constantly without wondering who they are: FloyyMenor (11,762), The Walters (9,218), Danny Ocean (5,132), Ruth B. (3,614), Omi (3,218). At the other end are the famous names whose Wikipedia pages draw far more attention than their biggest songs: Kanye West (31), Beyoncé (36), Elton John (54), Michael Jackson (56), Mariah Carey (58).

What it means

Streams and searches measure different kinds of attention, and both start with a song worth finding. If you have a hook of your own, an AI song generator can turn it into a full track with vocals in a few minutes. For a soundtrack to your own day, an AI music generator can score it to whatever mood you need.

Method

  • English Wikipedia page views, all devices, human readers only (bots excluded), monthly per article, Jan 2016–Sep 2026. 'Past 12 months' = Oct 2025–Sep 2026.
  • Spotify: the all-time most-streamed songs list (top 300). Streams are summed per lead (first-credited) artist. Streams of the artist's all-time biggest songs are the 'listens' side.
  • Artist pages were matched by name, with manual fixes for ambiguous names (Future, Train, Passenger, Toto, Pitbull, Earth, Wind & Fire). Djo and Childish Gambino were dropped because their pages are the actors' biographies.
