On a normal day Americans search "sad songs" more than "happy songs": the median day has happy songs at 79% of sad songs' level. Happy songs win on only 47 of 539 days in our 2025–26 daily data. Holidays are where mood loses to the calendar. Happy songs won on 10 of 16 major holidays we checked, led by New Year's Day, when happy-song searches run more than twice sad-song searches.

What it means
Genre tastes move, but the urge to try one yourself does not. For a soundtrack to your own day, an AI music generator can score it to whatever mood you need. If you have a hook of your own, an AI song generator can turn it into a full track with vocals in a few minutes.
Method
- Same data as “The saddest day of the week, according to song searches”: Google search interest, US, daily, Jan–Sep 2025 and Jan–Sep 2026, "sad songs" and "happy songs" in one query (shared scale within each year).
- Holiday list: US federal or family holidays falling Jan–Sep; Thanksgiving and Christmas are outside the window.
