We compared where in the US people Google 16 famous city and state songs over the past five years. In 13 of 16 cases the song's home state ranks No. 1. The strongest home pull: "rocky top" in Tennessee (50x the median state), then "viva las vegas" in Nevada (25x) and "kansas city song" in Missouri (22x). Songs that became national anthems for everyone, like "Sweet Caroline", show much weaker home bias.

Method
- Google search interest, US, past 5 years (Oct 2021–Oct 2026), interest by state. Each song queried alone, so state scores are relative to the top state for that song (=100) and already adjust for population.
- Pride index = home state score ÷ median score of all other listed states.
- Excluded: "nashville" (city name, not a song); "new orleans" (city name, not a song); "dirty water" (generic phrase); "the boys are back in town" (no single home city).
