Parodies age better than you might think. Of 171 No. 1 hits since 2004 with US "[song] parody" searches, "Call Me Maybe" (2012) still leads at ~573 a month, then "Golden" (~259) and "Wrecking Ball" (~192). The parody peak was 2010–2015, the YouTube-parody golden age: songs from that era hold 2,342 of the 4,415 monthly parody searches.

What it means

Viral formats reward speed and a sound people already know. Anyone with a joke that deserves a chorus can draft the rewrite with an AI parody song generator. Anyone who would rather write lines fans quote for the right reasons can start a first draft with a song lyrics generator.

Method

  • US Google search volume (English), monthly, Oct 2022–Sep 2026. 'Avg/mo' = mean of the latest 12 months (Oct 2025–Sep 2026); '3-yr change' = latest 12 months vs Oct 2022–Sep 2023.
  • Universe: the 295 distinct Billboard Hot 100 No. 1 songs, Jan 2004–2026 (Billboard list), cleaned title.
  • Ambiguous titles (common words or titles that collide with products/brands, e.g. "Umbrella cover", "Happy karaoke") were excluded per query type.
