Using the US age profiles of 89 hit songs from the 1960s to the 2020s, we asked which decade each age group leans toward. The answer is: not much. The average searcher age for each decade's songs ranges only from 32.6 (1990s) to 36.9 (1970s). 18–24-year-olds' share is highest for 1990s songs, and 55–64-year-olds' share is highest for 2020s songs.

What it means
Every generation keeps its own soundtrack. If you have a hook of your own, an AI song generator can turn it into a full track with vocals in a few minutes. For a soundtrack to your own day, an AI music generator can score it to whatever mood you need.
Method
- Google search age and gender data, US, past 12 months (Nov 2025–Oct 2026). Each keyword's top age band = 100, and each keyword's larger gender = 100; "average age" is the index-weighted mean of band midpoints (18–24 … 55–64).
- Share = a band's index ÷ the sum of the five band indexes for that song, averaged across the songs of a decade.
- Same song set as “Gen Z vs Boomers: who actually searches which songs” / “The 'my parents' music' effect: '80s and '90s hits young people search most”/“Music nostalgia peaks at what age? Search evidence for the 'reminiscence bump'”.
