We compared US monthly Google searches for 54 famous lyric lines (the line itself or the line plus "lyrics", whichever is bigger) with searches for the song's title. Two lines clearly beat their titles. "You spin me right round" gets 27,100 searches a month, against 3,600 for "you spin me round", the title of Dead or Alive's hit. "Don't go chasing waterfalls" gets 14,800, against 6,600 for "waterfalls tlc". 3 more lines tie with their titles exactly: "na na na na hey hey goodbye", "we could have had it all", "cause you had a bad day". Usually the title wins easily. The median line gets 4% of its title's searches. "Caught in a landslide" gets 1,900 a month, against 246,000 for Bohemian Rhapsody.

Lyrics are the part of a song fans quote, argue over and get wrong. Anyone who would rather write lines fans quote for the right reasons can start a first draft with a song lyrics generator. And if the words are the hard part, an AI song writer can help shape a verse and chorus before anything is recorded.
Method
- Google search volume, US, English, 12-month average to September 2026.
- 68 hand-picked, widely quoted lines from 61 songs (classics, 2000s–2010s hits and 2024–26 hits). Each line was checked with and without "lyrics" on the end, and we used the bigger number. The title query is the song title, with the artist added where the title alone is ambiguous (for example "hello adele").
- Apostrophes were removed from the queries.
